Just imagine manually separating matters of solid and liquid state, it must surely take more than forever to get everything done. That must be the reason why inventors have had an idea to create a tool that can readily do the job and operate in an efficient way possible. This is called a Filter Press. It works when the mixture often called as slurry is pumped into it and it gets dewatered through the pressure that is used in means of separating the two different state of matter. Usually, this are used in treatment for water waste and most states and cities are opting on using such a tool.

To create this tool in a whole, it was divided into its four different component according to its use and operational function. The very first part of it is consisting its skeleton which known as frame. This one is a clamping material for the plates.

Next are the filter plate which has its own set of categories and are functioning uniquely than each other. Its main categories are as follows, plate and frame, recessed chamber and the last one would be the diaphragm squeeze. The plate would not effectively function when one of these categories provided are missing.

The next component would be the manifold. This one is consist with valves and piping which serves as the control system for the slurry inlet. This at the same time allows a mere connection between the four corner filtrate discharge ports straight into a general discharge pipe.

Last but never the least, the filter cloth. This one is often located on plates and constantly blocks all the solid particle. This is where the filtering cake built up or in other words the solids are filters and stuck in here. Eventually, the separation takes place in this area.

Pumping of slurry directly in the inside of a press starts the cycle, the process within would include distribution of solid material in an even matter for the whole cycle. The particles will then get stuck on the cloth surface but some fines ones are possible of going through most especially when the built up cakes are not that thick yet. But when it does get thick then there is no way for those fine particles to escape from the cloth.

As it builds pressure, those solids that got stuck on its chambers gets full. Once, it is full then the cycle is already considered complete and the filtrate would go straight to the manifolds. When the valves are opened, that is where the filtrates exits and serves as its outlet.

It takes more than forty minutes for the usual cycle to completely end. And after reaching that limit of time, there is a necessity of opening the press so that blow downs can be operated. However, for those operation that requires some complicated task like cake wash, it needs a lot more than just the usual minutes.

There were factors that may also affect the whole cycle. The most common surely would be of nature of those that are filtered. When the material that needs to get dewatered is an Aluminum Hydroxide then it would definitely take a little longer to finish.
