Cummins L series engines are straight 6 diesel engines which are produced and are designed by Cummins. These engine types can displace 10 liters. The production has started in the year 1982 and was named L10. This L10 engine was being based on a predecessor with 8.3 liters and is used into many different applications. This can displace 10 liters and is made available in different forms.

The forms are classified into three types, the vertical form, horizontal form for the buses and the trains under floors, and upright form for the trucks and buses. The L10 is the first engine to be offered competitive by Cummins in the market. This is due to having the earlier productions as too large and too heavy. The introduction also became troublesome, having higher oil consumption and also sealing problems. Here are the installation steps of aftermarket exhausts to an engine of dodge 6.7 Cummins L type.

Be sure to let the engine be cooled first before you are going to touch it. This must be cooled first so you will be protected from any harm because of the engines high temperature. If you touch it, you may provide a pair of gloves or even just any types of cloth for the heat to be lessened. After cooling, start to remove its passenger side fender. Make sure to remove it well so you can have an easy access to V band clamp.

The V band clamp can be found in the exhausts housing of a turbo. V band clamps are the connections to a downpipe. After the removal of fender, cut off the downpipe using either sawzall or hacksaw. This must be done first before a cross member is cut. With this, you can just easily get that downpipe our from truck.

The clamps are then loosened from exhausts. This component is consist of many hangers which are being attached into the vehicle frame. Remove properly these hangers. Also remove the factory exhaust by following the given instructions properly for removal. Cut and remove the factory spare tire heat guard in which the location is in tailpipe section of exhausts. The accommodation of aftermarket will become bigger if this is done.

Start the installation of the newly improved and the newly purchased aftermarket exhaust. Begin the process by attaching the downpipe into the factory V band which was previously taken off. Straight pieces of the exhaust pipes will then be added until the muffler will reach its proper placement. Most of the aftermarket kits are provided with pipe pieces that are labeled as 1, 2, 3, etc. See to it that the clamps are not tightened.

Hang the muffler well. Mufflers are the parts that would allow to slide the exhaust pipe in it in different directions. You may experiencing some difficulties when doing this step. So you may use pliers for stretching the ends of the muffler. Having a partner can be very helpful during this process of hanging the muffler.

Hanging over the tailpipe section and axle pipe. Make sure that all the hangers will be hung well. A penetrating oil is suggested for use in making the hangers just slide easily into rubber brushings.

And the last process is reinstalling the passenger side fender. Reinstalling it well is very important. To crank up the truck. Make sure to avoid any rattling sounds by checking the exhaust if it is not loosened. After all processes, test all the operations.
